Should Children Be Present During a Window Installation?

Your window installation is a big project that can take one or two days to complete, depending upon the number of windows being replaced and the size of the crew doing the replacement. During that time, there are power tools and workers present, and a lot of noise from the window removal and replacement process. It’s not chaotic, but it’s not the best environment for some children. Knowing what to expect, and whether your children can be around for your installation, can help you be ready for the construction crew.

Know What to Expect on Window Installation Day

Your window installation will start with a consultation and the signing of your contract. This is a great time to ask your installer questions about what to expect, including how long the process will take and whether they will need you to make any preparations before workers arrive.

Your window installer will likely need you to remove curtains and blinds before the installation takes place, and will ask you to clear a path to your windows to ensure that they can reach your windows. On the day of the installation, the best installation crews will likely only remove one window at a time to ensure that your home maintains a consistent comfortable temperature, especially in winter. If you have a lot of windows to replace, you may have more than one crew on location, so more than one window may come out at a time, but they are usually immediately replaced before moving on to the next window.

The team of window installers will move from room to room, removing and replacing one window at a time. This helps control the temperature in your home. There’s a lot of noise associated with window installation, so no matter where your installers are in the home, you’ll continue to hear them.

Make Arrangements for Children During Window Installation

Window installation is a lot of work – for contractors, and for you. If you’re a parent of a young child, it’s best to have your children out of the house during the window installation.

Having your kids out of the house during the daytime will help keep your kids safe. It will also make it easier for you to take down your curtains and blinds in the hours before your installers arrive. Small children can be uncomfortable in the presence of loud noises, and may also find it difficult to stay away from the workers in their home removing their home’s windows. This can be dangerous for both them and the installers, who might be carrying heavy windows and may not be able to see small children at their feet.

Older children should be able to stay in your house during your window installation, but you should make them aware of the noise. They may choose to go to a friend’s house during this project.

Pets Too Need a Place to Go Too

Kids aren’t the only ones who have a hard time leaving window installers alone, and they also aren’t the only ones who often find loud noises disturbing! If you’re a pet owner, it’s best to find your furry friend a place to go for the one or two days when your windows are being installed. At the least find a place in your home where they can be safely secured away from your window installers. Of course, they’ll still hear the noise and not being able to see where it’s coming from could cause them undue stress.

Some pet owners take their pet to a neighbor or relative’s house during this time, others find a pet boarding facility for one or two days. Find out from your window installer how many days your installation will take, so you’ll know how long to plan for your pet being away.
