Larry Landes, president of Renewal by Andersen of Central and Northern New Jersey and a noted expert in the patio door and replacement window industry, was recently quoted in The Record newspapers of New Jersey.

Larry’s thoughts about the energy efficiency of today’s patio doors can be read online at The Record’s http://www.northjersey.com. In the article, “Doors Slide Into Energy Efficiency and Luxury”, Larry was quoted speaking about the special super energy efficient glass used in Renewal by Andersen replacement windows and doors.

Landes said that manufacturers of the insulated glass used in today’s windows and doors use special gasses to improve the energy efficiency of those windows and doors. Landes said that manufacturers usually fill the spaces between the panes of glass with either argon gas or a special blend of gasses, which is what Andersen uses, he said.

“That gas is designed to give you additional energy efficiency because it acts as a barrier for heat going from inside to outside and vice versa,” Landes said.

Larry stated that not only is the glass used in its windows and doors very energy efficient, it also has benefits for the fabrics and furnishings in the home.

“The glass has microscopic coatings designed to cut down on the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun,” Landes said. He went on to state that, “You won’t have the discoloration of furniture, because it [Andersen glass] blocks out 99 percent of that. The glass is also better insulated.

The article which was published in the October 17, 2013 edition of the Home section of The Record, also discussed the different types of doors sold by Renewal by Andersen, the replacement window and door division of Andersen Corporation.

Among the door series discussed were:

400 Series: French Door styling and solid wood construction.

A Series: Similar to the 400 Series, but with more choices for exterior and interior colors and finishes.

100 Series: Comprised of Andersen’s patented Fibrex material and featuring a large glass surface area.

200 Series: Features either solid wood or perma-shield doors in a contemporary design.
